What is Your Purpose?
Really. What IS the purpose of everything?
It so often feels like an existential question, but it doesn't have to be.
It is just giving yourself permission to hear yourself.
The question of finding your purpose is big, but one worth contemplating continuously, so it doesn't become so laden with the expectation to get it right.
Jenn, a client of mine had recently moved and decided to start a new job.
She told me that she was concerned with the question of her life purpose as a mama who wants to create something great with her work in the world, but also be a good mom, a committed friend, a kind daughter, and a financially stable professional woman.
Jenn felt overwhelmed with how to plan, and think of her life’s goals and her inner purpose within her decisions.
Have you ever felt like you just don’t know what your purpose is anymore?
In the doctor's office waiting room, in the checkout line, right when you are about to grab that "US" magazine.
When you're thinking of composing a job inquiry e-mail…
When you are waiting for a text from your partner…
The more I ask the question, the more I am fascinated with the abundance, magic, and simplicity of answers that come up, depending on the moment.
Today, I recognize that my real purpose LIVES in the moment of the question about it being born.
What if we would ask this one question, every day?
You may find many books, speeches, courses, movies, so much material on how to find yourself, to make a difference, to manifest your 'Desired Destiny.'
What if the answer to living your purpose is not there?
What if it is in the place where you are asking the question from?
In your vulnerable body?
In your delicate and wildly surprising heart?
In your mind's fear, its' doubt, and in your ego's frustrations with itself?
Ask yourself: What is the purpose of your life within the space of this next hour?
Is it to read?
Is it to go for a walk?
Is it to call a friend?
Is it to work on a project that has been on your mind?
Is it to say no to an invitation?
Is it to buckle down and do some work you are not excited about?
Is it to cook?
To write?
To cry?
Observe what comes up once you ask the question, without judgment, just hear and accept the first thing that feels right in your body!
Whether the answer gives your mind a sense of excitement or not, know that your purpose is not in the outcome of the activity.
It is just to be IN IT. In with whatever you chose to bring your attention to for the next 15 minutes, the next hour.
You can always say no.
You can always change your plan.
You can always do nothing.
Only you will know what needs to be done when the time comes to do the next thing.
Your purpose is to be in this moment with yourself.
Not because you are selfish or arrogant.
Your purpose is to start with yourself first because that is where your power lives.
Not in the ideas of what your fear will happen to you in the future.
Not in the disappointments that you cling to as reasons to continue to doubt yourself.
You are here because you want to create positive change in the world, to grow into your potential, and to be thriving.
This will take a real commitment to your growth first, and confidence in what you have to give.
You cannot give what you do not feel you have.
So, this is your permission slip.
Commit to yourself.
Commit to doing the work you need to embrace yourself.
Trust that you have all you need to fulfill your bigger life purpose with grace.
That is your purpose right now.
To be that.
It is not sexy, it’s not easy, but it's free and there is nothing to do or learn to achieve it.
Be present with what you need to express right now.
Isn't that the purpose underneath it all?
Let's dare to thrive in it.
Are you with me?
I will see you out there.
With respect and support for your purpose and your powerful heart to hear it, and to honor your voice.
Here is to YOU and the change you are creating in the world, just by recognizing what you are.
Dare to love yourself as you would or, already do, love your child.
Have a beautiful Mother's Day weekend, my loves.
Time to be and to love.
Your Sasha, xoxo
